Firstly, I did not buy this box (for a number of reasons - following) so I cannot write a complete review - but I can tell you why I did not buy it.

  1. No obis on the individual covers

  2. Inserts etc. For example, one of the cool things about Night and Day was that it had a "Night Side" and a "Day Side" with quite different labels. As with the Floyd releases the extra labels would have been nice. Same goes for "Big World": I can live without a second disc for this one but the labels would be nice (especially given it was a 3 sided album - wasn't it?).

  3. Price. These work out at 2,500 yen per release. That's not expensive but it's not cheap either. If we're going to fork out 22,500 yen in one hit directly to the manufacturer it would be nice to get either a little bit more (obis) or pay less (say 2,000 per release). It's not like they're going to have a few of the less popular titles sitting unsold.

Yes, Sam, but is almost the same situation with other boxes, like Lynyrd MCA Years, Rod Stewart. Steve Winwood, etc... they don´t include the OBIs, and they do always a booklet with all the lirycs, not the individual ones.

I think that is only to prevent that the individual tittles are being sold individually or something, if not I can´t understand.

By the way, this is my first post, thanks for the updgrade and the new forum.

Cheers

Domingo

Seems like the rule of thumb is, if there's a huge OBI around the box then there's no individual OBIs on the sleeves. Ditto Joni Mitchell box.

Front cover (main) image of Caroline-2008 : Various Artists : Caroline Records 2009 US Releases
Caroline-2008 : 2008-08-05

In late 2008 Caroline Records in the USA released a number of albums by the following artists: UFO, Jethro Tull, Quicksilver Messenger, Brian Eno, Roxy Music, The Raspberries, Kate Bush, Blondie, The Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Van Der Graaf Generator (full list below).

Unlike the suspect Universal releases these are 100% Japanese. The only difference between these and the Japanese (apart from being as much as 50% cheaper) is a sticker on the bar code of the obi.

As at March 2009 most of these are still available at Amazon.

DU-BOX075 : 2006-04-06
Two titles only (CTCD-541 and 542) - may have been a Captain Trip box? Can hold up to 8? CDs.
Front cover (main) image of DU-SP146.2 : Bowie, David : Space Oddity Box
DU-SP146.2 : 2007-03-07

This box was issued by Disk Union as part of the 3rd of their 3 box releases in the early 2007. You did not need to buy boxes one (Ziggy Stardust Box and Promo Obis) or two (Low Box and Promo Obis) in order to receive the Space Oddity Box. It came with Let's Dance Box and Promo Obis.

Front cover (main) image of UICY-93013-38 : Rolling Stones (The) : In the 60's
UICY-93013-38 : 2006-03-16

2006 (reprinted at least once) release of Stones albums from the earliest days up to 1975. Does not include the early 70s releases.

Each album included a collector card. The backs of the cards, when laid side by side, formed the cover image of "Their Satanic Majesties Request".

Front cover (main) image of WPCR-13142 (fake) : Led Zeppelin : Fake Led Zeppelin - 40th Anniversary Definitive Collection (Zoso Box)
WPCR-13142 (fake) : 2009-01-01

This fake Led Zeppelin 40th Anniversary appears to be made in China. You would find it hard to pick a sealed copy of this as being anything other than than the real deal.

Inside it is also remarkably similar but has some significant, obvious differences in packaging including: (a) the CD comes in a flimsy loose fitting bag (b) Physical Graffiti has no cut out windows and (c) III (3) has no turning wheel.

The CDs also have the tell tale extra ring in the middle but this is much better disguised than usual.

Unusually for fakes these have the catalogue number and an IFPI code (CC 303) on the silver side of the disc.
