ELO: Secret Messages 14 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
There are just recently uploaded two issues of ELO, Secret Messages to Discogs:
http://www.discogs.com/Electric-Light-Orchestra-Secret-Messages/release/1973565 http://www.discogs.com/Electric-Light-Orchestra-Secret-Messages/release/1980635

As you can see they are almost indentical, the differences being:

1. One of the has a typo in the cat.no on obi-strip
2. Different CD matrix printings
3. Different printings on the CD itself

Any idea why there exists two almost identical issues for the sam title? Could one of them be fake?

Hi Internaut,

The first one (1973565) is a fake.

The first sign of this is the ring that is visible on the label of the CD.

See http://www.minilps.net/fakes for more tell tale signs.

Sam.

Front cover (main) image of VC 04-17 : Beatles (The) : Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
VC 04-17 : 2002-01-01

Russian mini LP of the 1967 album from the Fab Four. Nice reproduction including a full black CD replica of the original vinyl disc.

Front cover (main) image of Die Cut Covers : Hall of Fame : Die Cut Covers
Die Cut Covers :

Die cutting of the cover image or inserts is probably the most common technique employed to create gimmick covers. It's probably also in most cases the cheapest.

There are thousands of die cut covers. Here are a few of the more popular and best known releases.

Front cover (main) image of ARC-7003 : Semiramis : Dedicato a Frazz
ARC-7003 : 2002-03-27

Rare Italian Progressive rock album from the Trident label.

Images for this release show two different types of obis for original (sticker) and reprints (paper) of this release.

Front cover (main) image of LIST-007 : Quintessence Editions : 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die
LIST-007 : 2006-02-07

This is a work in progress project and due to its size it will take some time to finish.

Book cover images from different countries are welcome (or the ones included but with better image resolution).

Front cover (main) image of UICY-9522 (fake) : Aerosmith : Pump (Real of Fake?)
UICY-9522 (fake) :

Here is a comparison between a genuine official copy of Aerosmith Pump made by Universal and a Russian counterfeit copy. In the picture, the real one is on the left and the fake is on the right.

Front cover (main) image of POCP-9194 to POCP-9208 & 9212/3 : Who (The) : POCP Target Obi Series
POCP-9194 to POCP-9208 & 9212/3 : 1999-09-29
The first edition of the first series of mini LPs for the Who (target obis) came with inserts that were pre-punched. A binder and T-Shirt accompanied the release. It is not clear how these were obtained but it seems likely that the small yellow coupon on the obi would have been snipped off and the folder at least was awarded on surrendering the full set of coupons.
