OBI question 15 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,
the FAQ about OBI STRIP clearly describes the meaning of "Yogaku" symbol.
I have also seen L and X symbols on OBIs.
Can anyone explain what do these symbols mean?

Thanks in advance,
Vlad.

Hi Vlad,

Good question - Can you please provide some images or links to releases on the site that have these symbols?

Thanks, Sam.

Hi Vlad,

I've taken the liberty of uploading the larger version of the image - just in case it disappears.... I will do some more research and get back to you... Sam

I have asked one of the guy's who helped with the original obi FAQ and we shall see. In the meantime I think the L may mean the opposite of the Y - ie. Japanese - or perhaps a type of Japanese such as "modern Japanese"?

I notice that Flower Travellin' Band releases have the L.

Maybe it is, but i don't think so. If you take a close look, you will see these symbols always stand near the date of release. I think these symbols have something to do with this date. Let's see.

Rush-Sector-1 : 2011-11-21

Each sliding box has a picture from 1 member of the band. On top of the boxes, you find part of the logo that is on the inside of the 2112 cd. Once you put the 3 boxes one beside another, you have the complete logo.
Front cover (main) image of DU-BOX045 : Emerson, Lake + Palmer : Tarkus Box and Obis
DU-BOX045 : 2005-09-28

Tarkus promo box and obis released to accompany the first K2 24 bit release of the first five ELP albums.

The artwork is darker than the album cover. It came with 6 promo obis, 2 for Trilogy.

Some of the images shown here include all but one of the Tarkus Mini LP releases spanning 1994 - 2008

Home made box featuring art work from Queen's "A Night At The Opera". Images for this box were anonymously donated to the MiniLPs site along with the assurance that only a few of these were made for close friends.
Front cover (main) image of DU-SP146.2 : Bowie, David : Space Oddity Box
DU-SP146.2 : 2007-03-07

This box was issued by Disk Union as part of the 3rd of their 3 box releases in the early 2007. You did not need to buy boxes one (Ziggy Stardust Box and Promo Obis) or two (Low Box and Promo Obis) in order to receive the Space Oddity Box. It came with Let's Dance Box and Promo Obis.

Front cover (main) image of WPCR-13142 (fake) : Led Zeppelin : Fake Led Zeppelin - 40th Anniversary Definitive Collection (Zoso Box)
WPCR-13142 (fake) : 2009-01-01

This fake Led Zeppelin 40th Anniversary appears to be made in China. You would find it hard to pick a sealed copy of this as being anything other than than the real deal.

Inside it is also remarkably similar but has some significant, obvious differences in packaging including: (a) the CD comes in a flimsy loose fitting bag (b) Physical Graffiti has no cut out windows and (c) III (3) has no turning wheel.

The CDs also have the tell tale extra ring in the middle but this is much better disguised than usual.

Unusually for fakes these have the catalogue number and an IFPI code (CC 303) on the silver side of the disc.

TOCP-65740 : 2001-06-16
The landmark 1973 album from Pink Floyd. This issue contains all the original inserts plus more.
