What is a promo obi? E-mail

A promo obi is an obi given away as a promotional item. It is usually a replica of the obi that came with the original release.

Normally, an obi strip provides information about the current release (in other words it has a specific function: to provide information to the buyer) whereas a promo obi is nothing more than a replica of something that is theoretically long out of date.

Promo obis often come as part of a promo box package.

Promo boxes also sometimes (much more rarely) contain a replica cover of a 33rpm LP or a 45 rpm single (such as Zappa's Uncle Meat Box).
