Cream Disraeli Gears mini-LP catalog number 16 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 1
The label of my CD has the catalog number UICY-9151 but the matrix number engraved on the playing side says UICY-6196. This is the catalog number for a different Japanese issue of Disraeli Gears.

Also Lynyrd Skynyrd One More From the Road mini-LP, UICY-93333/4 has the matrix number UICY-90404/5 (which are of the Deluxe edition release).

Do the record companies who issue the mini-LP's sometimes use the masters from other earlier editions of the titles? I've seen some comments on the internet that fake Japanese mini-LP's sometimes have the wrong matrix numbers, but this doesn't seem to be the case with the 2 titles I mention.

Hi ehadas1,

I have also got a copy of Disraeli Gears (mine came from Disk Union) and it also has the UICY-6196 on the underside of the disc.

In fact my full set of Cream issues have miss-matches on the release IDs as follows:
  1. Fresh UICY-9150 = UICY-6195

  2. Disraeli Gears UICY-9151 = UICY-6196

  3. Wheels of Fire UICY-9152-53 = UICY-6197-98

  4. Goodbye UICY-9154 = UICY-6159

  5. Live Cream UICY-9155 = UICY-6200

  6. Live Cream Vol. 2 UICY-9156 = UICY-6201

There are a number of mini LP reprints of these CDs - not sure if they are all the same - mine are from late 2006.

I don't have any Lynyrd Skynyrd but I imagine it's the same situation.

Mini LPs definitely use old remasters (more often than not) but that does not mean they will use the other releases numbering on the underside of the disc. I guess that's either company policy or just laziness.

I have seen fakes that have the "real" release number on the underside of the disc (but I think this is uncommon). Here an example (Aerosmith Pump):

This is not what is used to spot a fake. The main tell tale sign of a fake as far as numbering is concerned is the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) number. This is the number that most often omitted in fakes.

Fakes will often also not have the bar code type stamps on the underside of the CD.

We are compiling a list of known fakes with the aim of making it safer for us all to spot and avoid fakes.

Sam.

Hello all,
The copy of Disraeli Gears that I've just bought has the UICY-9151 on the label side but the playing side has POCP-9112!!! The first is from 2001 the later is dated 1998 I think. Does anyone have a similar cd or can shine some light on it for me.
The playing side also has IFPI numbers: 3937 and L221 but no barcode.
Cheers,
Alex.

VICP-5442,3,4 : 1994-09-21

The first three Emerson Lake and Palmer albums (self titled, Tarkus and Pictures at an Exhibition) are arguably the first true Rock Mini LPs. They were released on 21st September 1994.

These had been preceded by a much earlier Lotus and a US release of some Rolling Stones albums repackaged for Japan a few short months before these. Neither of these earlier releases was true to the original vinyl although the Stones came close.

The earliest true Minis were two series of MCA Jazz releases from March 1994 (MVCZ-26 to MVCZ-45) including this example: Death and The Flower.
