Universal Music japan new SHM-CD releases 15 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 1
I've bought several new mini-LP relases by Universal Music Japan this summer, in the SHM-CD format. Many of the CD's - Duane Allman, Supertramp, Steely Dan and The Who - have a card insert which reproduces the original LP record label, each numbered with a "Your copy number ..." text. Some of the CD's do not have this card. I assume that only the initial pressings of each title (2000 copies or so) have the card included, while later pressings do not.

I would appreciate hearing comments about this issue from other members who own or have seen these Universal Music SHM-CD's.

If the CD surface is like a mirror with only a few text on it, then you have the card with the original labels printed on it and the serial. If the CD has the surface screenprinted in the normal way then not card with labels and serial #. Is not about the # of copies. Some SHM-CDs are published in one way and some in the other.

I like the numbered cards, but I hate the mirror surfaces, and more when I need to picture them to share the images here.

Front cover (main) image of VICP-5442,3,4 : Emerson, Lake + Palmer : First True Japanese Mini LP Rock Release
VICP-5442,3,4 : 1994-09-21

The first three Emerson Lake and Palmer albums (self titled, Tarkus and Pictures at an Exhibition) are arguably the first true Rock Mini LPs. They were released on 21st September 1994.

These had been preceded by a much earlier Lotus and a US release of some Rolling Stones albums repackaged for Japan a few short months before these. Neither of these earlier releases was true to the original vinyl although the Stones came close.

The earliest true Minis were two series of MCA Jazz releases from March 1994 (MVCZ-26 to MVCZ-45) including this example: Death and The Flower.
