Velvet fakes? [Was:Universal UICY Japanese mini-LP 16 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
continued from Universal UICY Japanese mini-LP

Hi there,
first post.
I've recently received delivery (from a German source on ebay) of two Velvet Underground Japan mini lps namely 'The velvet Underground' and 'White Light White Heat' I am concerned about certain spelling mistakes both on
the cardboard sleeves and on the printed side of the discs.
Also on the playing side of each disc where I would expect to see the UICY number there is instead a backward number which when read forwards would seem to correspond with your photo listings on the actual article page of your website.
Are these displays copies or are they the genuine article If so mine are identical but are they fake?
I'd like a clarification before I challenge the seller.
Cheers,
Alex.

Alex, they are real pictures.

I don´t know about fakes of the Velvet minis so I think that yours must be originals.

You have 2 different Velvet releases, the old one with the code POCY and the newest one with the code UICY.

Hi Alex,

Can you be more precise about the spelling mistakes?

Also, what are the actual numbers on the two discs?

Any chance you can scan or photograph the fronts of the discs?

Thanks, Sam.

Hi Sam,
sorry for taking so long to get back.
Of the three Velvet Underground mini lp cds I have, the following mistakes appear:

On the back cover of 'White Light/White Heat' (VERVE) Track 4 reads; 'THERE SHE COMES' and should read 'HERE SHE COMES'
Cd label side shows codes UICY-9135 and (POCY-9002)
Track 5 reads 'I HEAD HER CALL ...' should be 'I HEARD HER CALL ...
On silver side, what looks like POCP 2520 ER V but it's actually upside down and right to left??

Back cover of 'The Velvet Underground'(POLYDOR) track 10 reads 'AFTERHOURS' (one word) should be two.
CD label codes UICY-9136 and ( POCY-9003)
track 4 reads; 'PELE BULE EYES' should be 'PALE BLUE EYES'
Playing side code looks like POCP- 2521 2R V but again right to left/upside down.

'VU' (VERVE) cover is good.
Cd label codes UICY-9137 and (POCY-9004).
Track 1 reads; 'CAN'T STAND IT ...' should read 'I CAN'T STAND IT ....'
track 7 reads; 'INSIDE YOUR HEART' should be 'TEMPTATION INSIDE YOUR HEART'
Track 8 reads; 'ONE OF THESE' should be 'ONE OF THESE DAYS'
Playing side codes POCP - 1844 - 3K and
IFPI L237 these two codes are larger but still backward and upside down.

I'm still waiting to receive 'The Velvet Underground and Nico' Sorry can't scan and upload but as far as I can see they all look identical to your pictures (except for playing sides which aren't shown) Would appear to be bad quality control?
Alex.

Hi Alex,

You´re right about the mistakes, but don´t worry, you have the originals. I have checked all this with my own minis that comes from a guarantee japanese source (Sushi-Sashimi) and is exactaly as you described.

About all these mistakes I need to say also that in my original VU III LP also track 10 read AFTERHOURS.

Thanks for that, I'm now convinced that mine are genuine. I've stopped fretting and will simply enjoy them.
Cheers to all.
Regards,
Alex.

Front cover (main) image of VICP-5442,3,4 : Emerson, Lake + Palmer : First True Japanese Mini LP Rock Release
VICP-5442,3,4 : 1994-09-21

The first three Emerson Lake and Palmer albums (self titled, Tarkus and Pictures at an Exhibition) are arguably the first true Rock Mini LPs. They were released on 21st September 1994.

These had been preceded by a much earlier Lotus and a US release of some Rolling Stones albums repackaged for Japan a few short months before these. Neither of these earlier releases was true to the original vinyl although the Stones came close.

The earliest true Minis were two series of MCA Jazz releases from March 1994 (MVCZ-26 to MVCZ-45) including this example: Death and The Flower.

Front cover (main) image of TOCP-71041 : Beatles (The) : The Beatles in Mono
TOCP-71041 : 2009-09-09

Published by EMI Music Japan. This box is a little larger than the non-Japanese version as it contains additional printed material.

Front cover (main) image of UICY-93013-38 : Rolling Stones (The) : In the 60's
UICY-93013-38 : 2006-03-16

2006 (reprinted at least once) release of Stones albums from the earliest days up to 1975. Does not include the early 70s releases.

Each album included a collector card. The backs of the cards, when laid side by side, formed the cover image of "Their Satanic Majesties Request".

Front cover (main) image of POCP-9194 to POCP-9208 & 9212/3 : Who (The) : POCP Target Obi Series
POCP-9194 to POCP-9208 & 9212/3 : 1999-09-29
The first edition of the first series of mini LPs for the Who (target obis) came with inserts that were pre-punched. A binder and T-Shirt accompanied the release. It is not clear how these were obtained but it seems likely that the small yellow coupon on the obi would have been snipped off and the folder at least was awarded on surrendering the full set of coupons.

Front cover (main) image of anon-queen-opera : Queen : A Night At The Opera Box
anon-queen-opera :
Home made box featuring art work from Queen's "A Night At The Opera". Images for this box were anonymously donated to the MiniLPs site along with the assurance that only a few of these were made for close friends.
Front cover (main) image of WPCR-14304 : Cooper, Alice : Billion Dollar Babies
WPCR-14304 : 2011-12-21
Warner Music Japan : Cardboard sleeve (mini LP) reissue from Alice Cooper featuring the high-fidelity SHM-CD format (compatible with standard CD players) and 2011 remastering. The cardboard sleeve features double jacket with an inner bag and WB moss green label. Comes with a billion-dollar bill (reprint), a description, and lyrics. Part of a twelve-album Alice Cooper SHM-CD cardboard sleeve reissue series featuring albums "Pretties For You," "Easy Action," "Love It To Death," "Killer," "Schools's Out," "Billion Dollar Babies," "Muscle Of Love," "Welcome To My Nightmare," "Goes To Hell," "Lace And Whiskey," "The Alice Cooper Show," and "From The Inside."
