"Santana has taken flight like a Poseidon missile exploding out of a sea
of mediocrity ... a rare poetic delicacy. Rhythms move in parallel layers, interrupting, overlaying, penetrating one another, multiplyinh into mathematical complexity, finally merging into one overwhelming musical thrust ... Outwardly innocent, Santana's instrumental solos are long-lined and full of musical quile, bending, flatting and sharping with something of the intricacy of Oriental music." - Time Magazine
The quote on the back of the cover comes from "Demian" by Herman Hesse:
"We stood before it and began to freeze inside from the exertion. We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it: We called it mother, called it whore and slut, called it our beloved, called it Abraxas...."
There are other quotes that could have been used from the book, and the name Abraxas is certainly not an invention of Hesse's - for better or worse this is the chosen quote (and one would imagine the inspiration for the cover painting - or vice versa?).
The sticker seen on the cover scan is on the outside of the standard protective plastic bag. The sticker can be found on many of the Santana releases for this date (2006-May-03).
The Fuji Rock Festival has been held annually since 1997. In 2006 it was held from Friday July 28 thru to Sunday July 30 at the Naeba Ski Resort, Yuzawa-machi, Niigata, Japan. Artists included "Happy Mondays", "Sonic Youth" and "Red Hot Chilli Peppers" who played at the first event in 1997. Half way through their performance the event was closed and then cancelled due to a typhon thus depriving the Japanese of the second day's artists who included "Green Day"
