Quella Vecchia Locanda - Quella Vecchia Locanda

BVCM-37427 (2003)

An impressive self-titled debut album of Italian progressive rock featuring many classical influences with a little bit of Jethro Tull like flute. The cover is equally impressive.

Obi:Strange Days Presents: BMG Italian Rock Paper Sleeve Collection

As per the original "Help (ZSLH 55091)" this has a gatefold cover with a top opening on the right hand (back) fold. Very lightly textured cover.

Disegni e foto [Design and Photography]: Giancarlo Impiglia, Armando Mancini

Esclusivit? Photolito [other references state this as photography but I think it's some sort of specialist printing technique]: Feliciani, Ferrante, Zega [Not sure if it's one name or 3!]

Lyrics:Japanese only on a 2 by 2 glossy foldout. Italian lyrics are printed on the inside of the gatefold but would be rather hard to read even on a full 12 inch cover.
Editor Comments

According to "First album came out in 1972, with the American violinist Donald Lax as sixth member, and the LP is still regarded as a classic in its field, with an original fusion of classical influences and the use of flute and electric violin in evidence. The album starts with the nice Prologo, and though some foreign bands' influences are clear (like Jethro Tull in some flute passages), there are some great moments like in Un villaggio, un'illusione."

Founding members (from 1970) included in the line up for this release are:

  • Giorgio Giorgi (vocals, flute)
  • Raimondo Maria Cocco (guitar, vocals, clarinet)
  • Massimo Roselli (keyboards, vocals)
  • Romualdo Coletta (bass)
  • Patrick Traina (drums, percussioni)

Issued as part of the magnificent Strange Days Presents Italian Rock.
