Do original artists get any royalties? 16 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi all, do original artists get any royalties from Jap mini LPs? Or is it just a way to sell copies? Any feedback on this would be appreciated

Hi Bassman,

It's my understanding the yes they do get royalties. They don't from fakes of Japanese mini LPs but they do from the originals you buy from the likes of HMV, CDJapan, Disk Union and legitimate non-Japanese stores.

Also, pretty well any CD you buy from an eBay seller located in Japan would be the real thing and has had royalities paid when it was originally purchased.

There has always been doubt about the royalties (or not) from Russian mini LPs but I tend to think that they do not get royalties from these (certainly not all of them anyway). Perhaps with many regular Russian CDs but not the replicas.

Sam.

The last I heard, no artist gets any royalties in Russia at all because they have no copyright system. This was a few years ago now but I haven't heard of any change. MP3 discography CDs are sold legally in stores there, so you can bet the artist doesn't see a penny.
