Led Zep box 13 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I recently purchased the 40th Anniversary Box...which turned out to be a fake (looks like the Chinese one). Was wondering if anyone could tell me about the quality of the discs. It states SHM-CD. Are the discs really made with that material or is that just another forgery??

I am also curious about this one. I bought the Led Zeppelin Definitive 40th Aniversary box set off Ebay and I can only assume it is a fake (no interactive covers on LZ3 and Physical Graffiti). Fit and finish are also lacking. Still not bad for a copy! My copy also has CDs with SHM-CD on the inner ring. The CD material looks clear, giving no indication it is different than any other CD.

My main concern is with the sound quality. Has anyone compared the Japanese pressings to any of the copies? I have no way to compare what I have to a legitimate release, but overall the sound seems bright and fatiguing. For example, listening to "Dazed And Confused" on The Song Remains The Same, it starts out quite promising with an open soundstage, decent imaging, and good bass. However, when the music gets dense the sound gets bright and confused. Also, the sound of Jimmy Page's bow could peel paint! I realize that the sound of the fakes must vary with source, but on average is the sound of an official Japanese release dramatically better?

I have both legit and fake box sets - good question about he sound quality especially given the debate on SHM.

I would be willing to bet that the fakes are not SHM.

I will try to get around to doing some sort of comparison - which disc is considered the best production - Physical Graffiti / In Through the Out Door?

Die Cut Covers :

Die cutting of the cover image or inserts is probably the most common technique employed to create gimmick covers. It's probably also in most cases the cheapest.

There are thousands of die cut covers. Here are a few of the more popular and best known releases.
