Where can I buy new release mini LPs? E-mail

There are a number of places where you can buy mini LPs when they are first released.  Some argue that you're best to buy online from a Japanese website. One of the reasons for doing this is because new releases often sell out quickly, sometimes before the actual release date!

Online from Japan

The major additional costs you may incur buying online from Japan are:

  1. Shipping.  Some shops ship via courier which can be prohibitively expensive (although arguably safer). Shop around and include the cost in your calculations;
  2. Import Taxes and Duties.  Depending on your local customs, you may get hit for this every now and then.  It can add a significant additional cost especially if your local authority hit you with a fine or an administration fee.

The two major online sellers are:

  1. CDJapan (current month's new Paper Sleeve releases); and
  2. HMV (Japan) (recent and soon to be released).

They don't always get all releases (I don't know why - I guess it has to do with relationships between the manufacturer and retailer) so check both.

Local Businesses

Supporting local businesses is always a good idea - the more we support them the more likely they are to get interesting items in stock. It's always nice to look at the item before you buy it.

Australia Redeye Based in Sydney but they sell online to anywhere in the world. Let them know we told you about them.
US CDUniverse Here is a link to their Japanese Mini LP releases. Once there you will have to trawl through lists - hopeless search capabilities if you're looking just for minis.
US Amazon.com Amazon don't have a huge stock and it's really hard, confusing and annoying to find the mini LPs. Also there are lots of fakes and cheap Russian copies (from market sellers). Try this link for a search of mostly mini lp sleeves.

Support this site

If you'd like to support this site and you're buying from eBay please use the links on this site. Even if you always buy from the same seller (eg. Quicksilverlove or eiselvis), if you search in the "fake free eBay search using this seller and then select you item, this supports the site.

POCP-9194 to POCP-9208 & 9212/3 : 1999-09-29
The first edition of the first series of mini LPs for the Who (target obis) came with inserts that were pre-punched. A binder and T-Shirt accompanied the release. It is not clear how these were obtained but it seems likely that the small yellow coupon on the obi would have been snipped off and the folder at least was awarded on surrendering the full set of coupons.

anon-queen-opera :
Home made box featuring art work from Queen's "A Night At The Opera". Images for this box were anonymously donated to the MiniLPs site along with the assurance that only a few of these were made for close friends.

Front cover (main) image of DU-SP146.2 : Bowie, David : Space Oddity Box
DU-SP146.2 : 2007-03-07

This box was issued by Disk Union as part of the 3rd of their 3 box releases in the early 2007. You did not need to buy boxes one (Ziggy Stardust Box and Promo Obis) or two (Low Box and Promo Obis) in order to receive the Space Oddity Box. It came with Let's Dance Box and Promo Obis.

Front cover (main) image of Caroline-2008 : Various Artists : Caroline Records 2009 US Releases
Caroline-2008 : 2008-08-05

In late 2008 Caroline Records in the USA released a number of albums by the following artists: UFO, Jethro Tull, Quicksilver Messenger, Brian Eno, Roxy Music, The Raspberries, Kate Bush, Blondie, The Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Van Der Graaf Generator (full list below).

Unlike the suspect Universal releases these are 100% Japanese. The only difference between these and the Japanese (apart from being as much as 50% cheaper) is a sticker on the bar code of the obi.

As at March 2009 most of these are still available at Amazon.

MHCP-1002 : 2006-06-07

Recorded in early July 1973 this album took nearly a year to make it to streets.

One of the most elaborate record covers ever produced and probably the most elaborate so far to make it to mini LP release. It is nearly impossible to capture the splendour of this on a web site but we shall try...
