Hollywood, CA - July 5, 2004
- On August 10, Capitol Records/EMI will release a new, specially-packaged
Blondie: Singles Box, featuring the influential punk/new
wave band's top hits and B-sides, from "Rip Her To Shreds" to
"Warchild." The flip-top box, packaged with 15 individual CD sleeves
replicating the original 7" artwork, is a must-have for fans old and
new.
The Blondie story began in 1974, when Deborah Harry and her partner,
guitarist Chris Stein formed a new group out of the remnants of New York
club outfit The Stilettos. Joined by Clem Burke, Gary Valentine and Jimmy
Destri, Blondie built up a sizeable underground following and were eventually
signed to Chrysalis in September 1978.
The feisty ambition of ex-Playboy bunny Deborah Harry and her mop-topped
male colleagues paid off. A quarter century after their debut, Blondie
is rightly acclaimed as one of the most influential bands of its generation.
Blondie also became the most commercially successful act of the era's
punk and new wave scenes, enjoying 14 top 10 singles in the U.S., six
of which were number ones.
