Ayers, Kevin + Cale, John + Eno, Brian + Nico - June 1, 1974

UICY-9686 (2006)

A snapshot of performances recorded at The Rainbow Theatre, London, from an unusual grab bag of performers and composers. Most compositions are by Kevin Ayers but there a couple from Brian Eno (including "Baby's On Fire), not forgetting Nico's version of The Doors number: "The End".

Editor Comments

Side One features two tracks composed and sung by Eno ("Driving Me Backwards" and "Baby's on Fire"); John Cale singing a rather dark version of "Heartbreak Hotel"; Nico singing (at times almost speaking) The Door's "The End".

Side Two is devoted to Ayer's compositions of "May I", "Shouting In A Bucket Blues", "Stanger in Blue Suede Shoes", "Everybody's Sometime and Some People's All The Time Blues" amd "Two Goes Into Four".

The last two tracks have Mike Oldfield on guitar and Robert Wyatt plays persussion throughout

A nice and rather eno-esque misprint on the paper foldout has Eno's first track listed as "Driving Me Backwords"! He would probably have been working on "Oblique Strategies" at the time too.
